According to the NHS a healthy diet should include at least two portions of fish a week including one of oily fish, however, in practice this can be difficult for some.
Fish oil, in particular the EPA (ecosapentianoic acid) component has been shown to have many health benefits for the general population in addition to particular benefits for sports people. A modern diet tends to have too much Omega 6 & 9 fatty acids relative to Omega 3 for optimal function. Our brain, lungs, heart and muscles have all been shown to work better with fish oil supplementation. Long term studies of high dose fish oil supplementation have been shown to have favourable effects that would be of benefit to athletic performance.
OTE Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement contains both EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) in a contaminant free form making it easy to consume sufficient quantities of essential fatty acids.
Using the supplement
There is no recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for Omega 3 fatty acids. The beneficial effect for a healthy heart is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of EPA and DHA. Maintenance of brain function and eye health is obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA.
1 capsule contains 550mg of EPA and DHA
2 capsules per day covers the RDA of Omega 3 fatty acids according to Nordic recommendations (1000 mg/day).
Capsules can be taken alone or with meals.
Note: Taking up to 3 grams of fish oil supplements daily is considered safe. Do not take more than 3 grams per day unless you have discussed this with your doctor first. Taking more than 3 grams of fish oil daily may increase the risk of bleeding.
