One of the most impactful Ted talks in history is by Simon Sinek, entitled ‘how great leaders inspire action.’
In this talk which has amassed over 53 million views on Ted Talks, + many millions more on YouTube, Simon talks about starting with ‘Why’.
In the video Simon explains that 'Why' is probably the most important message that an organisation or individual can communicate as this is what inspires others to action. 'Start With Why' is how you explain your purpose and the reason you exist and behave as you do. The theory is that successfully communicating the passion behind the 'Why' is a way to communicate with the listener's limbic brain. This is the part of our anatomy that processes feelings such as trust and loyalty - as well as decision-making.
We focus on this theory every single day, ‘Why are we making this change?’, ‘Why will it improve a customer’s experience?’, ‘Why are we going to complete this next block of training?’ ‘Why is it going to get us closer to our overall goal?’ And since doing so we have found it the most powerful thing to make sure you stay on track with your focuses and goals and true to your ‘why’.
Give the video a watch if you haven’t previously, it will be 18 minutes that could well change your mindset forever!
