Calorie Deficit
I want to tone up - calorie deficit. I want abs - calorie deficit. I want more muscle definition - calorie deficit. Instagram and social media are jam packed with made up theories and techniques from people normally looking to hook you onto their ‘life changing’ program. In reality however, weight loss, or weight gain for that matter are a simple science of calories in vs calories out. In short, if you are burning more calories than you are consuming you will be in a calorie deficit and be able achieve weight loss! And if you’re looking to put weight...

Extrinsic Motivation
Earlier in the week we covered of motivation, specifically intrinsic motivation and its benefits. However, there is another form of motivation that also plays a part in getting us up and marching towards our goals and that’s extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation refers to a behaviour that’s driven by external rewards as opposed to an internal desire. Essentially it’s a version of motivation that hangs onto something tangible such as a specific result, a grade, money. Whilst it’s an effective form of motivation it can unfortunately be short lived. Stay Motivated
When it comes to health and fitness, staying motivated isn’t always easy! Particularly with the stresses and demands of day to day work and life. What do you do to stay motivated and keep on track? We find a really good way to keep on track is to set yourself daily goals, structure your workouts and schedule them in advance to give you less to think about day in day out. The more prepared you can be the easier it is to get through your workout simply by following the program you’ve set days in advance. It’s also a great...

Give Cyclists Space
We recently put a story up highlighting that a motorist overtaking a cyclist at speed within 3 feet is the equivalent of standing between the yellow line and a passing train on a station platform. This, coupled with some rather choice overtakes made whilst we were recently up in Scotland cycling really hit home just how vulnerable we can be whilst out on the bike. It’s so important that motorists and cyclists remember, we share the same piece of real estate and whilst some motorists may think that cyclists aren’t close enough to the kerb, we may well be avoiding...
