Who doesn’t love a good stretch in the morning? Stretching in the morning acts to loosen and realign the muscles after a period of time spent immobile. It also helps with circulation, getting our blood flowing after we’ve spent the night laying flat and our heart rate moving a little slower than it does when we’re awake.
But, whilst a morning stretch feels incredible we often overlook the benefits of stretching regularly for our day to day health and fitness so we thought we’d take a little bit of time to look at just how beneficial stretching really is.
🧘♀️ better posture: stretching on a regular basis can help your muscles from getting tight, allowing you to maintain proper posture.
🧘♀️ stress relief: when we stretch, tense muscles that often accompany stress become loose and allow us to feel more relaxed and calm.
🧘♀️ increased flexibility and joint range of motion: regular stretching can improve daily performance from even the most mundane tasks such as bending, moving and lifting objects.
🧘♀️ injury prevention & muscle soreness: stretching before and after we workout helps to warm up our body, decreasing the risk of injury and muscle soreness.
If you’re tight for time during your busy day, why not try incorporating a 20 - 30 minute stretch into a quieter part of your day? We find that before bed when Netflix is on works best, and if you want to go one stage farther why not download an app like Go Wod to help you?
