There is an old adage that the only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen and with this statement, many of us have external factors going on in our hectic lives that mean we have to structure our training at a time of day that we can physically fit in. However, there are many benefits of training in the morning that may just make an earlier alarm or slight shift in routine more beneficial than you might think.
🔥 support weight loss: several studies have found that working out in the morning can kickstart your metabolism and actually help your body burn more calories across the course of a normal day.
🔥 appetite control: exercise helps to regulate your appetite as it reduces ghrelin (the hunger hormone) and increases satiety hormones such as peptide YY and glucagon-like peptide-1. Coupled with a morning workout these factors have the ability to kerb your appetite throughout the day.
🔥 improved mood: any form of physical activity is a tool to beat stress. Exercising in the morning is a great way to start off your day on a positive note, flooding your brain with “feel-good” neurotransmitters and dopamine.
🔥 more overall energy: exercising on a regular basis is fantastic for boosting energy and reducing fatigue. When you work out, oxygen and nutrients travel to your heart and lungs, improving your cardiovascular system, endurance, and overall stamina.
🔥 less distractions: early morning workouts usually help to eliminate distractions, particularly if you can get them in either before your working day has started, or better still, before the rest of the family are up. Whilst this may be a big ask, working out early in the morning before the never ending to-do list is in full flow or the work calls and messages start coming through mean you are more likely to follow through with your planned workout as you have less excuses.
As with every change in routine it will take some time to make a morning workout a habit and it will feel difficult at first when that alarm goes off a little earlier than usual but stuck at it, before long you will notice benefits in your day to day life you never expected!
